Considerations
Translate a word from symbolic concept to physical object by creating a representation of the word that takes into account:
- Materiality — What is it made of, and how does the material emphasize the meaning of the word? Is the material chosen for its visual qualities alone, or does the material itself represent the word?
- Temporality — Is there a kinetic element to the word, or an ephemeral quality? Is it interactive? Does it change over time?
- Typography — How do the shapes of the letters reinforce the meaning of the word? Does the font and kerning match with both its meaning and sound?
- Scale — Does size, or variance in size, play a part in conveying your word?
- Volume — Is the word three dimensional, with visual interest from all directions?
- Color — How does the color(s) correlate to the feel and aesthetic of the word?
- Denotations and Connotations — Have you addressed more than one sense of the word?
